Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Family:
You will never follow through with college, you never follow through with anything.
How I responded:
You cannot listen to the noise, they may think they know what is best for you, but they are not you. They cannot live your life, only you can do that.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
I was working dead end jobs and never had money left over. So I thought there was no way I could go to college, because I couldn't pay for it. I had no idea that there was such a thing as financial aid.
With the grades I earned in high school, I never thought I could be successful in college. When I found something I loved (buisness classes) I made the Dean's list repeatedly and was selected as graduation speaker for my Associate Degree.
