Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Family:
Why wouldn't you stay with that job that pays you so well? You are going to quit and do what? Do not walk away from graduate school - you are just foolish. You have no experience in that --why would you ever be a success at it?
How I responded:
This is about YOU. This is about the decisions YOU have to live with. Not your parents, not your family, not your friends. Yes, it will be hard - but anything worth doing is. Let them know you are scared but passionate. Let them know that no matter what you still love and respect them - even if they can't stand behind you. ALWAYS TAKE THE HIGH ROAD. At some point in their life they will see you are happy. You may not be rich, famous etc but as long as you are happy - nothing else matters.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
I was obese from the time I was 11 until I was 51. I had weight-loss surgery because it was time for ME. I am no longer obese, I am healthy. I still struggle with how I feel about me, but it is a path forward, not back.
