Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Society in general:
Art history is a waste of time. No one cares about it here.
How I responded:
How can something others have cared about for millennia and literally, in some cases, cared "for" for hundreds of years be a waste of time? I study medieval art and it has been important to put myself into contexts where the study of art has cultural value (Italy, for example). Additionally, my study of the past has helped me to see how complex things can be and what a privilege it is to be in the position to try and speak for the past and help us think about what matters for our present.
