My path in life took a while to figure out
1.
First I thought I wanted to go to law school.
2.
So I majored in English.
3.
Then my parents asked that I minor in Computer Science.
4.
So I did.
5.
Then I decided to take a year off before going to law school, to try working in IT.
6.
Then I fell in love with it - so much so that I never thought about law school again.
Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Society in general:
Good luck getting a job, you English major.
How I responded:
Minor in something so "in demand" that your major doesn't matter. That way, you have a fall back plan if you change your mind on your career. My Computer Science minor allows me to work while still taking courses in school - so I can always change careers if I later decide that I want to.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
In college, my brother died. It turned my entire world upside down. I had to learn to take things one day at a time - homework, grieving, even just getting out of bed. But once I overcame it - I knew nothing could stop me from achieving my dreams.
