Life & Career Milestones

I've taken a lot of twists and turns

  • 1.

Joined the US Air Force out of high school.

  • 2.

Moved around which resulted in delays in achieving educational goals.

  • 3.

Left a nursing program after being transferred to a state that would not take the transfer credits.

  • 4.

Transferred overseas and changed my undergraduate major to Asian Studies.

  • 5.

Continued for a graduate degree that was not related to my career.

  • 6.

Several failed attempts to change careers.

  • 7.

Found a career that was a good balance between my professional experience and academic interests.

  • 8.

Desired to finish a PhD. I thought it was impossible due to the mobile nature of my career. However, I found WaldenU and the rest is history.

Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Peers:

Waste of time! Why not be comfortable with the stats quo? You can't make it.

  • How I responded:

I was discouraged by peers and sometimes immediate family. I had self doubt, frustrations, and many barriers along the way. I worked and lived in austere environments that made it very difficult to study and stay focused. I had two life changing events that would encourage most to quit. However, I transformed that into something positive and used that energy to push me through the tough times. I remained resilient and continued against all odds to complete my goals. Attitude is everything!
