My path in life took a while to figure out
1.
Always liked cars and architecture so I started in high school with shop and auto cad.
2.
Graduated high school and went to work at a car dealer to check out my love for cars while going to junior college.
3.
Decided cars were my passion so I went to SIUC to obtain a degree in Automotive Technology, which is a blend of working on cars and the business side of it. I also continued working at a dealership.
4.
Graduated college and went to work for the same dealership full time. I realized that working on cars was going to be a very physical job. I applied to another insurance company.
5.
Was trained by the insurance company to be a generalist. Took advantage of my auto education and started teaching others in the office the need-to-know information about cars.
6.
Realized that I loved to teach others and watch them develop their skills, so I applied to be a corporate trainer. After a while, I came to Travelers as a facilitator at Claim U.
7.
After a few years of teaching, I moved into a designer role at Claim U to start creating the training. I worked my way up to Sr. Designer, and my manager helped me realize the next step.
8.
After a lot of discussions and coaching, I applied for the director role and got it. I now enjoy leading a great team of designers and developers.
Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Society in general:
We don't trust insurance companies.
How I responded:
I picked an insurance company that prides itself in paying what we owe! This gives me comfort that I work for a company that does the right thing.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
Neither of my parents attended college and didn't have the money to pay for mine either. I applied for student loans, worked part time, and went to school. The greatest reward was paying for my school and then paying off the student loans!!
