How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Society in general:
We don't hire Black reporters! What are you applying here for?
How I responded:
Despite the world having issues with my color, I had mentors who pushed, shoved and spoke up for me to make sure I went forward . There was Ed Bradley at WCBS radio in NYC who was a reporter at the radio end and mentored me..he would later go on to 60 minutes. There was Nikki Giovanni one of the partners at ENCORE Magazine, then there was Vy Higgensen at Unique NY. They all mentored and encouraged and kept me straight!
