Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Peers:
Teaching isn't important - research is - so make sure you focus on that.
How I responded:
Be true to yourself and your goals - there are many paths in academic jobs, some about research, some about teaching. I'm lucky enough to now be teaching auditing and researching in the area of improving the student learning experience.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
My biggest challenge, even now 17yrs on, is self doubt - about my ability to be a good teacher to my students, to engage and support them. And then also in academic writing for research and evaluation of the projects I'm on. Start small is the key.
