My path in life took a while to figure out
1.
In middle school I was able to help produce our morning news show that was broadcast to the whole school.
2.
After developing a strong interest in production, I went to college to pursue a career in the Film/TV industry.
3.
After college I was able to get a job as a CBS page while also working as a manager at a grocery store.
4.
Decided to quit the grocery store and focus solely on growing my career in the entertainment industry.
5.
Left CBS for a smaller job at a post-production house in hopes of gaining more hands on experience.
6.
Through networking I had done over the years, I was given the opportunity to work as a PA on a show called DC Daily.
7.
DC Daily led me to a job opening with DC Comics that I already had experience in.
Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Society in general:
The only discouragement I ever had was after graduating college while working as manager at a grocery store. The head store manager told me I was making a bad decision for pursuing the entertainment business because there were too many uncertainties.
How I responded:
I thought about how miserable I was going into work everyday. I was making good money and had great health benefits, but ultimately I was unhappy and wanted more for myself. I decided to quit that job and face the unknown. After reaching out to everyone I knew, I landed a job as a CBS page and went back to minimum wage. Although my pay was drastically different, I looked forward to going into work everyday and knew I made the right decision for myself.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
I've overcome this obstacle by getting out of the mindset of being my own worst critic. If I stayed in that mindset, I would never have taken the leap to get into the entertainment industry. You have to believe in yourself.
