My path in life has been direct
1.
After my first year as an art major, I changed my major to Child and Adolescent Studies, and then graduated with my BS in Child & Adolescent Development.
2.
Then, I continued at Cal State Fullerton to earn my teaching credential. I gained experience by working with kids in Summer Camps and tutoring.
3.
Thankfully, through networking and being proactive to start my teaching career, I was hired right after earning my teaching credential and started my first job teaching in a local elementary school.
4.
While I was teaching full-time, I earned my Masters in Elementary Education with a concentration in Curriculum & Instruction (from CSUF).
5.
After several years teaching 6th grade (which I loved), I decided to pursue my PhD and applied to a doctorate program in London.
6.
It was quite an adjustment living and studying abroad, but I remained determined and earned my PhD from King's College, University of London.
7.
After a couple of years applying for jobs and facing rejection multiple times, I was fortunate to get hired at my stomping grounds, California State University, Fullerton.
Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Questions and uncertainty about not following the same path as my relatives. First considering art and then becoming a teacher was different as many relatives are in the medical field.
How I responded:
I’ve dealt with obstacles by focusing on my personal goals and becoming the best at what I do and what I want to do. Also, I'm happy being an educator and love my job!
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
After leaving a stable teaching career to study aboard, I worked in unrelated fields while earning my PhD. After moving back from London, I worked various jobs for a couple of years before starting my career at CSUF.
