How Leaders Describe a Typical Day at Work
In a great work day, I oversee all that there is to do on the teller side. I need to make sure all operations and procedures are done correctly.
Tasks & Responsibilities May Include
- Balance currency, coin, and checks in cash drawers at ends of shifts and calculate daily transactions, using computers, calculators, or adding machines.
- Receive checks and cash for deposit, verify amounts, and check accuracy of deposit slips.
- Monitor bank vaults to ensure cash balances are correct.
- Cash checks and pay out money after verifying that signatures are correct, that written and numerical amounts agree, and that accounts have sufficient funds.
- Count currency, coins, and checks received, by hand or using currency-counting machine, to prepare them for deposit or shipment to branch banks or the Federal Reserve Bank.

I enjoyed what I studied in college because doing my undergrad in something pretty open gave me a lot of room to think about what I would want to pursue in my grad school part of life. Whether it would be teaching, law, or an MBA, studying philosophy and religion gave me the room to think outside the box. However since I've been out of school for a bit, my honest opinion is to go where the money is. In today's world not a lot of people get jobs related to their majors! Medical and accounting all the way baby!
The most important first step for someone in high school looking to pursue my occupation is to make sure that this is what they want to do. You have to love what you want to pursue as a career because that is when you will be successful at it.
Remain focused and always do your highest and best.
Get good grades in all subjects and get into a great college.
